My children take the business of choosing which treat they’ll contribute to their school Valentine’s parties very seriously.  It must be delicious, impressive looking and heart-shaped. This year, we found a fun alternative that had it all, being tasty, pretty, heart-shapeable and sugar free.  We chose  the Valentine’s themed  Funfetti Cookie Mix and Easy Frost No-Fuss Frosting, both sugar free and out for just a limited time for Valentine’s Day.

The kids were able to do everything themselves from making the dough to decorating them.  (Having two heart-shaped cookie cutters was essential and avoided frosting fights!) The cookies had that good, toasty sugar cookie taste that, too me, is the mark of a great sugar cookie (yes, we sampled them). The cookies all on their own were pretty with  flecks of pink, red and white candy bits in them. Because these lovely cookies deserved better than being covered over by frosting, they used the can of frosting  that comes with a decorative tip so that they actually look like they know what they were doing.

My kids had a heyday, making beautiful patterns of pale pink stars, squiggles and outlines on their pretty cookies. I know they’ll be a big hit at their respective Valentine’s Day parties. For my part, I like that our family won’t be contributing to the massive sugar high.
