Not that I’m sick of blogging already, dear readers, but I open this week’s blog to a guest. Lydia R. of Arvada and her family recently checked out the new Pajama Brunch at the Second Home Kitchen and Bar in the schnazzy new JW Marriott Denver, 150 Clayton Ln. in Cherry Creek North www.secondhomedenver.com. Here’s Lydia’s take:
When I heard kids wearing pajamas eat free at Second Home Kitchen and Bar’s Pajama Brunch, Sun. from 6:30am-2pm, I knew my 5-year-old daughter would love it. But as it turns out, the adults did, too.
I felt a little self-conscious parading my pajama-clad child past the fine shops of Cherry Creek North, and the feeling didn’t stop when walking through the Marriott’s lobby or the modern-yet-rustic restaurant entrance. Then I saw the hostess, dressed in pajamas herself (along with the restaurant’s other servers), and I remembered I was in the right place.
We were seated near the Clayton the Moose Den, which housed a low-to-the-ground buffet of children’s sweet delights: assorted fruits, cereals, bowls of gummi bears, crushed Oreos, sprinkles, chocolate-covered pretzels and more for kids to snack on or use to top waffles and pancakes. While waiting for breakfast, kids can watch a movie, color or hang out on sleeping bags in the den, supervised by restaurant staff member, while parents order.
I loved that the Mediterranean Frittata I ordered (with spinach, artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes) had little to do with the kids’ sugary smorgasbord, and the feeling was mutual from my daughter. When the food came, my husband and I even briefly sent our one-year-old to the Clayton the Moose Den’s able staff so we could enjoy our food sans sticky fingers…for just once. Reservations were not required, but having one can ensure that you are seated near the kid’s area—convenient for very young children.
Prices range from $7-$15 per adult, plus drinks. With many menu items you don’t see everywhere—chicken n’ waffles, crawfish omelet, eggs and duck hash—it was a nice treat for parents and kids alike.

Messiness factor:
The mess stays in the kitchen
Yes. I’d go without the kids, but I would ask for a table farther from the kids’ area.
